What is a Nazarene?



Jesus grew up in a town called Nazareth - a town widely considered to be "on the wrong side of the tracks" - where no one expected anything good to come from. But the kingdom that Jesus came to bring didn't operate according to the world's expectations and instead offered something radically new where first and last are rearranged and greatness is defined by servanthood.

Following the example of Jesus the Nazarene, the Church of the Nazarene began in the inner city of Los Angeles reaching out to the poor, impoverished, diseased, and outcasts. From its very inception our church has believed that no one is undeserving of God's love or beyond the reach of his grace. This same belief remains at the heart of who we are to this very day.

The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant denomination in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. Officially founded in 1908, the church is located in 162 world areas and worships each week in more than 212 languages.



The Triune God



We believe in one completely holy and totally loving God who is the creator of all things. God eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.



The Bible



We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.



Salvation



We believe the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ accomplished everything necessary for salvation freely given by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.



The Christian Life



We believe in the ongoing work of God to transform believers in Christlikeness. The Christian life is characterized by ever-increasing love for God and neighbor.



The Church



We believe the church is the Body of Christ called together by the Holy Spirit through the Word to participate in God's redemptive plans for the world until Christ returns.



New Creation



We believe that Christ will return in glory to fully establish the Kingdom of God. Those who are in Christ will be fully conformed in His image and dwell with God eternally.
